Exeter Freeze Joins the Eastern Professional Hockey League - Friday, June 20, 2008

Thursday afternoon at the Exeter, New Hampshire, Ice House, the new Exeter Freeze professional hockey team officially joined the new Eastern Professional Hockey League. Exeter Ice House President Douglas Yasika along with Ice House VP & General Manager Dick Arpin welcomed EPHL Commissioner Jim Riggs as the new team announced its nickname and unveiled the club's logo.

 The Exeter Freeze will play twenty-five home games at the Exeter Ice House beginning this coming November. The team expects to name a head coach in the near future and applications are being taken for front office sales positions. Eastern Professional Hockey League Brooklyn Team Announcement - Thursday, June 12, 2008


A new Brooklyn, NY professional hockey team that will play in the Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL) was formally announced today, Tuesday, June 17th, at 1:00pm at the Aviator Sports and Recreation Center in Brooklyn. The new "Brooklyn Aces" professional hockey team will play twenty-five home games at the Aviator as part of the 2008-09 EPHL season which will begin this coming November, 2008.

In attendance at the announcement today were EPHL Commissioner Jim Riggs, League President Tim Kolpien, as well as league officials Curtis Russell and Igor Mrotchek.  The press conference was kicked off by Dean Rivera from the Aviator Sports and Recreation Center. During the announcement, the new Brooklyn Aces President Curtis Russell named Chris Firriolo as the clubs first head coach. Firriolo promised exciting professional hockey and involvement in the community.

Welcome to the New Eastern Professional Hockey League!


As a new "A" level minor league, our goal for our inaugural season is to provide fans, sponsors, and facilities throughout the northeast with exciting, family-friendly professional ice hockey action.

Our full-time professional players will suit up for member teams in markets in the northeastern United States . Each team will complete a 50 game schedule beginning Saturday, November 1

Our first formally announced member cities are Brooklyn NY , Danbury CT , Exeter NH , Rome NY , and West Orange NJ . Watch for additional announcements in June once ownership groups have posted necessary bonds and completed lease agreements

To provide a "Real" Pro Hockey Experience option to fans unable or unwilling to travel to higher level regional minor league hockey franchises.

Pens keep core intact, reload for 2008-09
Less than 24 hours after announcing the re-signings of both center Evgeni Malkin and defenseman Brooks Orpik, Pens' GM Ray Shero added Ruslan Fedotenko and Miroslav Satan to the mix, and signed Marc-Andre Fleury to a seven-year deal.

Rangers nab Naslund, Kalinin
The Rangers continued their remodeling by agreeing to terms with five-time All-Star Markus Naslund on a two-year deal and defenseman Dmitri Kalinin on a one-year pact. The deals likely spell the end of Jaromir Jagr's tenure with the Rangers.

Sharks sign defenseman Rob Blake
With Brian Campbell gone to Chicago, the San Jose Sharks bolstered their defense by signing free agent Rob Blake to a one-year contract. Blake has more than 700 career points and has scored more goals than any active NHL defenseman.

Thursday's edition of The Hockey Show featured a trip to the NHL Powered by Reebok Store for a look at how jerseys of the top free-agent players are put together. Also, Kings forward Derek Armstrong threw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium.
